Footnote: Staying warm and dry is of upmost importance. The Whanganui River valley has a wet climate and can be very cold out of the sun.
Clothes should be sufficient to keep you warm at all times, even when soaking wet. (Wool, polypropylene or any of the modern quick drying pile materials are best) One set of clothes should be kept dry at all times and saved for wear during evenings.
Sleeping bags should be of good quality
Aqua boots and shoes or reef sandals can be worn in the waka to keep other footwear dry.
|
|
OPTIONAL
Torch, notebook and pen
Camera / camcorder (Your responsibility to keep safe and dry)
Pillow
Ear plugs for light sleepers
DON'T bring gear you don't really need. Room on your waka is limited.
YOU will be supplied with one 50 litre waterproof container each, to pack all your personal belongings into.
FOOD , all meals are supplied on the river and Marae but bring some nibbles and treats (lollies, mints, crisps, dry fruit)
IMPORTANT , that you inform your group organiser immediately of any special food requirements. (ie. Non meat eaters, food allergies)
HEALTH , if you have a medical condition (diabetic, asthmatic, allergies or any disorder) please let your organiser know before leaving for Whakahoro.
FITNESS , we know you are fit.but some are downright unfit, some light training and exercise will bring about miracles.
The benefit of the six-man canoe is that it is well suited for enabling people who consider themselves physically challenged or unfit, to partake in the journey.
OUR river, marae and tours on the river are alcohol and drug free!
